Create a derivative, not a replacement
Preserve the original CCTV export according to the controller’s policy. Work on a copied file and use naming that prevents the protected version from being confused with the source.
Document the requested time range and recipient. Redacting an unnecessarily long clip increases both privacy exposure and review effort.

CCTV has difficult visual conditions
High camera angles, low resolution, compression, night lighting and small profiles can challenge any face detector. Use a privacy-focused mode and inspect entrances, exits and crowded sections closely.
- Review at native resolution.
- Check embedded timestamps remain readable.
- Inspect reflective doors and vehicle windows.
- Confirm masks persist at frame edges.

Check the recipient copy
Transcoding or resizing can change how strong a blur appears. Review the final deliverable at the same resolution and playback conditions the recipient will use.
Face redaction may not cover clothing, licence plates, audio or other identifiers. Include those in the wider disclosure review.
